Yasmin Zadeh Balbuena
Photography / Education

I am a photographer and educator born in London and currently based in the North of Spain. I trained as a graphic designer at Camberwell College of Arts, going on to work in live audiovisuals and light installations, before specialising in photography. My practice explores the relationship between urban and natural realms,  alongside which, the ephemeral aspects of light have always been an important aspect of my work. I have spent decades photographing brutalist architecture and derelict spaces left open for Nature to reclaim what was once hers, documenting the effect of time and the elements within these previously occupied landscapes.

I believe the relationships between art, nature and wellbeing to be inextricably linked. Beginning during my Masters in Photography and Sociology at Goldsmiths College I began to explore how photography, in particular pinhole photography,  can be used as a meditative tool within our rapidly shifting world. I have been involved in art education for over fifteen years, leading my own photography department in an Inner London college as well as devising workshops combining art, photography and wellbeing in schools, museums, festivals and green spaces.

Features include Pinhole Poetry, SOS Brutalism and Visions of Space, Paris.

Educational collaborations have included The Barbican, Kew Gardens and Magnum Photos.
