There´s something about the contrast between brutal architecture set against remote, wild nature that´s always captivated me. The 7000m long tunnels that pertain to the Tunel de la Engaña and its accompanying buildings lie on the border between Cantabria and Burgos. Despite taking over 20 years to build, changes in political agendas and economic dificulties saw to it that they were never used. Despite remaining the longest train tunnel in Spain for several decades, it never lived to see a train pass though its confines. The dramatic juxtaposition between the endless green valleys of Cantabria and these fallen concrete structures, fading back into the mountains, makes for a very special landscape.
